The core rule
On the Steam page, weapons combine with power-ups and evolve into new forms. In practice that means a run is a recipe: pick a weapon, then hunt the one specific passive it needs — not a scatter of generally good upgrades.
What is confirmed
- Tempest Axes + Sabaton → Whirlwind Axes (lightning-infused) — confirmed in preview play with Neave Blacktalon.
- Evolutions need a specific pairing, not a generic “upgrade three times”.
- Weapon upgrades also add followers: the Lasgun summons Trooper Kozlowski and more Guardsmen join as it upgrades.
How to plan a run
- Commit to one weapon early. Spreading upgrades across several weapons leaves you with none evolved.
- Learn your target passive before you start. IGN specifically criticised that evolution requirements are unclear in-game — this is the exact problem a recipe list solves.
- Watch for summon upgrades. Some power-ups add followers rather than raw damage, which changes the aggro maths.
