How Evolutions Work in Warhammer Survivors

A weapon evolves by combining with one specific power-up. That shape is on the Steam page. The October demo’s exact trigger — a maxed weapon, then a boss chest — is a player report and a datamine, not a developer rule.

Last updated 2026-10-27 · Demo build

🚧 Demo-era build: Warhammer Survivors launches November 10, 2026. A demo is playable now on Steam and Xbox PC — pages are seeded from demo-era sources and completed at launch.

What the developer has said

The Steam store page says weapons can be combined with power-ups and evolved into new forms. The 4 November 2025 announcement says you collect and evolve wargear. Neither post lists pairings, levels, or a chest. PlayStation.Blog on 6 October 2026 says Lyssa Revenya’s Rope and Grapnel evolves into an attack in which the Ghost of Rhea crosses the screen and bursts into fog. That post does not name White Dwarf, and it does not give a level.

Auroch Digital has also described what some evolved weapons do, without the companion: the Heavy Bolter is a stream of fire from the Boltgun; Orbital Bombardment is voidship fire from the Whirlwind Battery; Zangrom-Thaz comes from the Fyrestorm Greataxe and calls Gotrek; the Gauntlets of Ultramar come from the Power Fists and call Marneus Calgar. Those descriptions are official. The passive that triggers the demo rows is not.

What a preview actually played

IGN’s 6 October 2026 hands-on used Neave Blacktalon. Tempest Axes evolved into lightning-infused Whirlwind Axes after Sabaton was chosen and levelled. Sabaton is described there as a passive that makes the character faster. IGN criticised the in-game requirement as unclear. That is one worked example. It is not a statement that every weapon uses the same level, the same chest, or the same passive slot.

What community posts and datamines add

whsurvivors.wiki traces the eleven-recipe table to a single Steam community post on 7 October 2026. The wiki says that post does not state required levels, and that the list is unconfirmed by the developer. It also records two later player replies, not a patch note: one player (Bastion) reported maxing the weapon and then opening a boss chest; another (bdhaskell) reported that Frag Grenade wanted Bandolier at maximum, and said that was the only passive where a maximum was obvious. The wiki tells readers not to extend that Bandolier observation to every companion.

CapyDB says the same eleven pairings are in the demo’s files. Its datamine adds claims this site will not treat as fact: weapon max level 8, the passive present but not necessarily maxed, evolution from a boss chest rather than on the level-up screen, and the evolved weapon replacing the base weapon. CapyDB also lists boss minutes on Imperial Bastion and The Great Parch. Those clocks are not reproduced here, because this site has not timed them. Damage, area, cooldown and per-level bonuses in that datamine are not reprinted. Confirm the trigger at launch.

May list versus October list

An older community list for the May demo disagrees with the October report on three companions. whsurvivors.wiki records the change as community-list versus community-list, not as patch notes:

May-era posts also said the Lasgun had no evolution. The October report includes Lasgun + Gauntlet = Meltagun. If an older guide still shows the May companion, it is describing the old demo.

What is still TBD

The pairing table itself is on weapon evolutions. Companions are on power-ups.
